The City of Shelbina has been approved for the emergency demolition grant that it applied for recently.

The grant is worth $215,000. The City will be required to put in $25,000 cash. The Shelbina City Council heard a presentation from Dennis Stith of Shafer, Kline and Warren, as he gave a preliminary engineering report for the upcoming sewer improvement project. This was during the council’s regular meeting Tuesday night at the Shelbina City Hall.
   Engineering Report
Stith presented projected itemized cost options for the council to study on how to best approach the upcoming mandated wastewater improvement project.
City Administrator Dennis Klusmeyer emphasized to the council that the improvements were bare necessities, and no “frills” were added.
The first alternative which included the sewer evaluation, sewer system repair and sewer system rehabilitation all would total and estimated $5,112,917.
Alternative two which featured itemized costs totaled $8,470.72.
Klusmeyer told the council that what they are figuring are figures that are worst case scenario, depending on what the State requires the City to do with its wastewater system.
The council passed a motion to try to proceed with getting state funding through grants to help with the cost of the project.
