The United Way campaign thermometer in Shelbina is moving up. Recently Senior Center Director Debra Sparks and local volunteers filled the thermometer to 60 percent. “This represents businesses that support our local campaign. We appreciate everything our community does for the United Way and its sponsored programs. In Shelby County, the United Way helps fund the Senior Center, Clarence Nutrition Site, Shelby County NECAC, Head Start, scouting programs, Red Cross, Salvation Army and AVENUES. | Harrington Resigns as Shelby County’s
Economic Developer

Shelby County Economic Development Director Robert Harrington has stepped down to take a new position in Lamar, Missouri. Harrington was hired and introduced to the public on March 6, 2008. He held the position for almost two years. He was a representative of the county in trying to attract new business and help existing businesses. He was instrumental in establishing the Enhanced Enterprise Zone that helps smaller communities compete with larger ones for businesses and helps to expand existing businesses. | Smallwood Formally
Withdraws His Name
From the City Marshal Race

According to Shelby County Clerk Tracy Smith, on January 28, Jim Smallwood pulled his name from contention for the race for Shelbina City Marshal that will take place during the April election. Smallwood was convicted of a felony years ago. According to a letter from Smith to Judge Hadley Grimm, Smallwood recently learned that although he could file for office of Marshal, if elected, other requirements related to his felony would prohibit him from being able to carry out the duties of the office. | Shelby County R-IV Takes
Part in Kits 4 Kids Program

By Thad Requet Students from the Shelby Count R-IV School District took part in the Kits 4 Kids program through the Missouri Department of Education and Convoy of Hope. It’s a statewide humanitarian effort to help Haitian children suffering in the aftermath of the Jan. 12 earthquake. The goal is to put together 100,000 kits for the campaign. | New Provider Joins Hannibal Regional Medical Group in Shelbina

|
Mohammad Aktaruzzaman, M.D., Allergist/Immunologist with Hannibal Regional Medical Group have joined Sebastian Baginski, M.D., Charles Lichty, M.D., and Cheryl McGowan, FNP-BC, Nurse Practitioner in seeing patients in the Shelbina location. Ms. McGowan just recently joined the group. Dr. Aktaruzzaman completed a residency in Pathology and a fellowship in Immunopathology at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital/Albert Einstein School of Medicine in Bronx, New York.
