A meal consisting of grilled ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans a roll and sheet cakes will be served to those who attend.
The event is to raise funds to help people in Shelby County who are coping with cancer, home fires, or other crises in their lives.
A wide variety of auction items will be available for people to bid on during the day. People will also be able to by raffle tickets for a chance at winning a 32 inch Toshiba LCD high definition television. Raffle tickets are $5 each or three for $10. Those who purchased tickets don’t have to be present to win.
The Neighbors Helping Neighbors organization is a vision that Donna Mitchell and Joan Bierly had, that was inspired by the benefit held for Denice Mefford a few years ago.
“I think the community has really come together. Things have been coming out of the woodwork. God is sending us what we need. We just want to help as many people as we can,” Mitchell said.
She added that she is amazed with all the people who have reached out to help with the event. “We have gotten a lot more help this week,” she added.
Mitchell said her vision is becoming a reality. The organization is going in the direction she had hoped it would. “It’s exactly what I was hoping it would be,” she said.

Shelbina City Council members have a lot of planning ahead of them to come up with the best way to handle major changes mandated by the EPA through the DNR. This was discussed during Tuesday night’s council meeting at the Shelbina City Hall.
   EPA Regulations
Shelbina City Administrator Dennis Klusmeyer talked to the council about Inflow and Infiltration and disinfection of the city’s effluent at the wastewater plant. City Superintendent Rob Trivette has talked to the council in previous meetings, saying mandatory changes and requirements were on the way. According to Klusmeyer, they are here.
The EPA is mandating that all secondary outfalls from high flow clarifiers will no longer be a permitted discharge. This new requirement will be enforced at the time of the City’s permit renewal, which will be August of this year. Klusmeyer said a review and comment period for the project should begin in the next 30 days.
Klusmeyer, Trivette and Dennis Stith of Shafer, Kline and Warren recently attended a meeting with the Department of Natural Resources in Jefferson City to review how the regulation could be implemented.
