| Shelby County R-IV School Board Learns About Possible Funding Outlet for the Future
The Shelby County R-IV School Board heard Superintendent Rick Robert explain about US Cellular Dollars that could possibly be available for the district during Thursday night’s December school board meeting in the middle school library. US Cellular Dollars Roberts explained that Shelby County R-IV is trying to get votes for the district as a whole in a contest put on by US Cellular. The district is hoping to get funding available for a wind turbine to help generate electricity. The total amount of money that can be received from this promotion is $100,000. Roberts said if they could generate enough electricity for half of what the district is currently using, it would pay for itself in about a year-and-a-half. Roberts said he was trying to find a way to save a few dollars through an innovative idea. Board member Kyle Kendrick asked what the lifespan of the wind turbine would be. Roberts said he guessed about five years. Board member Jay Collins asked if wind studies had been done to see if it would work in this area. Robert said he was told that it could be done, depending on the height level of the tower. He added that technology was making the turbines work more efficiently with less wind power. | SCED Council Decides to Give Shelbina $1,500 to go Toward Tearing Buildings Down
In a special meeting held at noon Monday, the Shelby County Economic Development Council passed a motion to give the City of Shelbina funding to help tear down the old structures that are in very bad shape. The council decided to donate $500 per buildnig, up to $1,500 total toward the effort. There was concern about the SCED board over-committing to the City. Board member Joe Glover said he felt the land should be owned by the City and it be put in the paper stating that fact. For the full story, see this week’s issue of the Shelbina Weekly.

| Four-Lane to Open Up From Macon to Clarence Thursday
A new four-lane section from Macon to Clarence will open to traffic Thursday, December 17. This will include the interchange at Clarence. Signs and channelizers will be in place to help direct traffic onto the new lanes. This will include new route marking signs, which will direct motorists to their destinations. Motorists should expect delays during the opening as various lanes will be closed to allow for the removal of conflicting striping on the existing lanes. Motorists will need to be extra cautious in the work zone during and after the opening as traffic adjusts to the new traffic patterns.
