Workers from Westport Pools in St. Charles were busy pouring concrete for the new Shelbina City pool on Thursday morning.

The new Shelbina Public Swimming Pool is starting to take shape as workers have been busy building forms and pouring concrete in the last couple of weeks.
According to Shelbina City Administrator Dennis Klusmeyer, things are progressing. “Everything is formed and all the plumbing is roughed in right now. We are going to attempt, weather permitting, to hopefully get the walls done here within the next two weeks,” he said.
Klusmeyer said the shower building will be located west of the pool in almost the same location the old shower house stood. He said decking will be put in later, probably closer to spring.
Although the rain slowed the progress down some, the initial goal was to get all the concrete poured for the pool structure before the bad weather hit. Klusmeyer said they are still hoping to get this completed.

Deer hunters have taken to the woods in large numbers this year, but the number of deer they are returning with is down from last year.
As of 2 p.m. Monday afternoon, there had been a total of 579 antlered bucks taken in Shelby County, a total of 239 button bucks taken, and 807 doe taken. The number of total deer killed in Shelby County was 1,625.
In 2008, a total of 674 antlered bucks were taken in Shelby County, while 405 button bucks were taken and 1,149 doe were taken. This totaled, 2,228 deer taken in Shelby County in 2008 during the regular firearm season. Although Tuesday’s results will still have to be factored in, it looks as though the number of deer taken in Shelby County during the regular firearm season will be down this year from last.
