Shelby County R-IV Superintendent Rick Roberts announced Tuesday afternoon that due to the large amount of students who are currently under the weather with flu-like symptoms, school will be cancelled for the remainder of the week.
All activities and practices will be cancelled until Monday. The Musical will be postponed until next week. The CSIP and School Board meetings will be postponed. Vo-Tech students will not be attending Vo-Tech classes in Macon for the remainder of the week.
The H1N1 clinic that is scheduled for Wednesday is still on.
With the musical being postponed until next week, the Shelbina Arts Council will be showing "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs" at the Hawkins Theater during its normal hours.

Construction workers were busy Friday morning putting the concrete beams in place for the Cardinal Connector located just east of South Shelby High School. Westbound traffic on Highway 36 will travel over Shelby County Route FF. To go to the school, east bound traffic will turn off on FF and go under the Cardinal Connector, and westbound traffic will exit right before the approach to the Cardinal Connector.

The contractor has begun working 24 hours a day going from the Salt River to the west to Shelbina. They are also laying base rock on the west end of the job near Shelbina.
Beginning Wednesday, Shelby County Road 486 near the Salt River Bridge east of Lakenan will temporarily close at the junction of U.S. 36 and will reopen to traffic in approximately seven working days to allow ample curing time for the concrete.

A temporary bypass will be put into effect on Route 36 near the Macon and Shelby County line beginning Wednesday, November 11, at 10 a.m. The length of time the diversion will be in effect is weather dependent and a later news release will inform of project completion.
The bypass, which will divert traffic around a 3,000-foot section, is necessary to make permanent connection of the newly constructed lanes to the existing lanes in this area.
Motorists should pay close attention to the signs and use caution and patience in the work zone.

The South Shelby High School Extras will present Disney High School Muscial, Nov. 12-13 at 7 pm with a Sunday matinee Nov. 15th at 2 pm at Hawkins Theater in Shelbina. When East High basketball star Troy Bolton and new girl Gabriella Montez audition for the musical, giving drama siblings Sharpay and Ryan Evans a little competition, the entire school finds itself turned upside down.
