| Council Goes Against What Previously Had Been Decided on for Late Penalties

The Shelbina City Council voted 4-0 to allow The Restaurant an extra six days to come up with money to pay two months of back utility bills during Tuesday night’s council meeting at the Shelbina City Hall. The Restaurant It was brought up during the meeting that The Restaurant Owner Dean Eilers, whose utilities were shut off at his business last week, told the City he could come up with the back utility bill money by next Wednesday, Aug. 5. The total amount due at this time is $2,601.19 which is for the months of June and July. A final bill is due to be generated by the city Thursday, July 30. Normally, once the final bill is generated, to get re-connected, the customer has to pay the final bill plus deposits. If the amount past due is paid before the final bill is generated, it carries on to the next month like normal and with no adjustments in his deposits and no additional fees to be paid. Mayor John Smith said that the City has turned down this same request in the past. Council member Sonia Schaeffer asked if it had been a business. She was told that it was the owners of Clappers Steakhouse. For the full story, see this week’s issue of the Shelbina Weekly.
