Owner Tim Moore has 30 days to let the City know what he plans to do with the structure.

A wall collapsed on the back side of the “Hoot’s” Chestnut Inn building on the night of Tuesday, July 14. According to City Administrator Dennis Klusmeyer, who also serves as the City’s building inspector, a structural engineer came in and looked at the building and deemed it dangerous. With that said the building is to remain vacated until the problem is fixed, according to Klusmeyer. Owner Tim Moore was given notice that the building was considered dangerous. According to Klusmeyer, unless he deems it an emergency, Moore will have 30 days to let the City know what he plans to do with the structure. Klusmeyer said he is watching the building on a daily basis and in case of any shifting, he would have to deem it an emergency situation where something would have to be done immediately.   1647 0929 7/22/2009 hdl

Fr. Dandi Finds a New Home in Shelby County

Fr. Donardo (Dandi) S. Bermejo is the new Catholic Priest at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Shelbina and the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Clarence. Originally from the Philippines, Fr. Dandi has spent time in Jefferson City and Montgomery City.

Those who attend the St. Patrick Church in Clarence and the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shelbina are happy to have a new Father in place to conduct masses on a regular basis. Fr. Donardo (Dandi) S. Bermejo began in Shelby County at the beginning of July.
Don’t think conducting masses at two different churches will be a problem for Fr. Dandi. Back at his home in the Philippines, he was head of 100,000 parishioners and conducted 14 masses each weekend. He spent 15 years in one parish following this grueling schedule. When he started, there was no church or pastor at his location. Fr. Dandi oversaw the construction of a large church. He would take care of both masses and funerals on the weekend. Although he had help from some priests, it was still a very busy job. Fr. Dandi was also responsible for the erection of a pre-school, elementary school and high school. “I was able to see the first graduating class before I left,” he explained. He oversaw the building of the rectory, Parish Center, a Catholic Cemetery and a mini-hospital in his community back home.
