Details are sketchy at this point about an armed robbery that occurred around 9:38 a.m. Tuesday at the Community State Bank in Clarence. According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, two white males entered the bank. One was about six foot tall and skinny with short cropped hair. The second individual is described as having dark hair and a beard. According to the Sheriff’s Department, approximately $5,000 was taken in the robbery. The first suspect was described as wearing a mesh mask over his face, dark jogging pants with a white stripe down the side and a dark shirt. The Patrol said the suspects fled on foot. The Sheriff’s Department said they are believed to have gotten away in a 1990s model white Pontiac or Buick. Members of the Highway Patrol scoured the area shortly after the robbery took place, questioning people in vehicles and going door to door asking local residents if they saw anything, and advising them to lock their homes. According to Kim Larrick of the Community State Bank in Shelbina, she thought all of the bank personnel were unharmed, but noted that they hadn’t heard any details from the patrol on the incident, as of late Tuesday morning. She also stated that she hadn’t had the opportunity to talk with any of the employees from the Clarence bank, as the patrol was keeping them together during the investigation that morning. Authorities were looking for evidence in a parking lot across the street from the bank where a couple of witnesses think they may have seen the getaway car parked awhile before the robbery. Perrigo said three employees were inside the bank during the holdup. Investigators from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Clarence Police Department are reviewing the bank’s surveillance tape. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has also been involved in the case. If you have any information or see the suspects, call the Missouri Highway Patrol in Macon at 660-385-2132. As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, no arrests had been made and no further details were available, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The Shelbina Weekly will post any further developments on its web page this week at www.shelbinaweekly.com.
