The 2009 Shelby County Relay For Life was considered a success by everyone involved this past weekend at the Shelby County Fairgrounds.
The event was packed full of talented entertainment which featured live music, a ventriloquist to skits by the teams involved in this year’s relay.
Cancer survivor Sonia Schaeffer cut the ribbon to officially kick off the event at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
With only four teams participating this year, there was concern about how much money could be raised. The four teams did an excellent job and kept totals in the neighborhood of recent years when there was nearly twice as many teams raising money.
According to LuAnn Werr, so far $28,164.70 has been accounted for with some money still to be collected. This is an impressive total for just a four team relay.
