Elizabeth Platz

Elizabeth Platz may not yet realize the magnitude of what she has accomplished with her march to the Scripps National Spelling Bee Competition in Washington D.C., but someday she will.
Platz just missed the semifinal round of the competition, tying for 42nd place out of the 293 spellers who competed. Unfortunately, the top 41 advanced to the next round.
During the first round of competition, the spellers took a computer test which had 50 words for them to spell. Out of the 50, a total of 25 random words counted and the other 25 didn’t count. Elizabeth spelled 21 of the 25 words correctly that counted. Each word spelled correctly during that test counted for one point. She completed the first round with a total of 21 points.
