Shelbina City Council Takes a Preliminary Look at the New Fiscal Year Budget Numbers

The Shelbina City Council heard City Administrator Dennis Klusmeyer talk about preliminary budget numbers for the upcoming fiscal year during Tuesday night’s council meeting at the Shelbina City Hall.

   Numbers
   City Administrator Dennis Klusmeyer gave a brief overview of the estimated numbers for the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
   In the General Fund, there were total revenues estimated at $193,400 while the estimated expenses came in at $91,760. Klusmeyer also mentioned a projected an operating transfer of $316,980. “In the last few years it has been kind of an arbitrary number we’ve used to get things balanced out. That number represents a five percent utility revenue number,” Klusmeyer explained.

Memorial Day Service Held at the Shelbina American Legion Hall

The Annual Memorial Day Service was held at the Shelbina American Legion Post on Monday with the Eulogy presented by Dr. Albin Covington.
   Covington opened the ceremony by giving the invocation. Everyone then participated in the “Pledge of Alligiance,” followed by two songs, “My Country Tis of Thee” and “God Bless America,” both led by Tracy Smith.
   Harold “Sweed” Echtarnacht was honored with a 50 year continuous membership pin by Commander Charles Dodd.
   Dodd then read the “Pledge to Comrades” to those in attendance. He said that members of the Teachenor Post 376 worked 16 funerals this past year throughout the area.
   Covington gave the Eulogy. He said that Memorial Day is a day to remember those who have gone on before us. Originally it was to honor those who had served in the military.

Annual Relay For Life of Shelby County Set For June 6 and 7

The 2009 Relay For Life of Shelby County will take place on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 at the Shelby County Fairground’s in Shelbina. This year’s annual event begins at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and ends 12 1/2 later at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Survivor Lap, a lap led by cancer survivor’s begins at 6:15 p.m. and the always moving luminaria ceremony takes place at 9:00 p.m.
