| City Council Talks Briefly
About its Electric Rates
The Shelbina City Council looked at a print-out of the City’s electrical expenses as it currently stood, during Tuesday night’s regular council meeting. Electric Rates Shelbina City Clerk Mary Lou Craigg said that the sheet showed the City at a loss in the electrical department at $352,212.30, but said it would have been at an estimated loss of $498,000 if the rate increases wouldn’t have been put into place. She said that these are just estimates and with the way the rates are constantly fluctuating in the market, it was nearly impossible to tell exactly where everything stood. Craigg said that when the auditors close the books on June 30, that will be the time when they can get an official reading. She said even then the City wouldn’t be able to tell what the numbers were until about two months later after all of the bills were paid. | South Shelby Basketball Tournament to be Discontinued
South Shelby Athletic Director Tim Maddex described it as a sad day when he announced last week that the school would discontinue the annual South Shelby Basketball Tournament. The tournament has been an annual event since the opening of South Shelby High School. Maddex has struggled for the last several years to find enough teams to play in the tournament. For years, the tournament had four core teams that were in it every year, Monroe City, Macon, North Shelby and South Shelby. The other four teams would vary from year to year.
