| Schaeffer, Ratliff, Gough and Collins all Winners Tuesday

Shelby County Voters went to the polls Tuesday to choose two Shelbina City Council members and two Shelby County R-IV School Board members, among other things. Shelbina City Council Shelbina voters chose challenger Roy Lee “Buddy” Ratliff in the East Ward and incumbent Sonia Schaeffer in the West Ward. Ratliff received 141 votes while incumbent Tim Dunaway received 88 votes. In the West Ward it was incumbent Sonia Schaeffer receiving 77 votes while challenger Jim E. Millard received 68 votes. Shelby County R-IV School Board In the race for Shelby County R-IV School Board, it was Scott Gough and Jay Collins elected to fill the positions vacated by Rick Maupin and Todd Greenwell. Gough received 350 votes and Collins received 327 votes. The other two candidates who were in the running were Byron McLelland, who received 315 votes and Gerald “Jerry” Fenton, who received 293 votes. | Shelbina Fire Protection District Receives a Prevention Grant to Go Toward Technology

| The Shelbina Fire Protection District received a $2,797 fire prevention grant Monday from FM Global.
|
The Shelbina Fire Protection District received a financial boost Monday that will go toward enhancing safety for its fire fighters during an emergency. Assistant Fire Chief Allan Wilt received a check in the amount of $2,797 from Scott Kropatsch of Risk Servicing, which is affiliated with FM Global. The award will be used to assist with pre-fire planning to efficiently collect and track data related to local community buildings. The information will help the fire fighters respond in an emergency situation. It will consist of a new laptop and pre-planning software which will be used for pre-planning different local buildings so fire fighters will know what is in a building and where its located, in the event of a fire. Things such as chemicals and shut off’s will be mapped out. The lap top will be mounted in the main pumper truck. It will also feature a GPS system to assist the fire fighters in finding where they are going during an emergency. For the full story, see this week’s issue of the Shelbina Weekly.

| Johnston Drug Purchases Best Buy Pharmacy

Best Buy Pharmacy in Shelbina will be under a new name and new ownership in the near future. Jim Johnston of Clarence, the owner of Johnston Drug, which is located in Clarence, is currently in the process of purchasing Best Buy Pharmacy, minus the inventory. The drug store, which is located in the southwest corner of the C&R Supermarket in Shelbina is currently under ownership out of Louisiana. “We’ve made a down payment and we still have to have the lawyers get involved for the final transaction and stuff. | Police Department Hasn’t Turned in Certain Reports to the State in Two Years

The Shelbina Police Department may not be eligible to receive grant money because of not turning in reports to the State, according to the Missouri Department of Public Safety. The Police Department has not been turning in Uniform Crime Reports and Racial Profiling Reports. Although the Uniform Crime Reports are a voluntary program, the Racial Profiling Reports are required by the State. According to the Missouri Department of Public Safety, to be eligible for federal or state grants, law enforcement agencies must be in compliance with the provisions of Section 43.505 RSMo relating to Uniform Crime Reporting and Section 590.650 RSMo relating to Racial Profiling Reporting. | Council Hires Summer Help For Golf Course

In a Special City Council meeting held last Tuesday at the Shelbina City Hall, the council passed a motion to hire summer employees for the Shelbina Lakeside Golf Course.
