The annual Shelbina Chamber of Commerce Banquet was held Saturday at the Father Buhman Center in Shelbina. Kristi Ray, formerly of Shelbyville, who serves as Executive Vice President for the Columbia Chamber of Commerce was the featured speaker for the event. Ray has been involved with chamber for many years, beginning at the Columbia Chamber of Commerce in 1989 where she worked for about four years. “I absolutely fell in love with the business,” For the full story, see this week’s issue of the Shelbina Weekly.

| Suspect Confesses to Shelbina Burglary
|
|
On Jan. 29, Anthony Lee, was charged with Burglary in the 2nd degree, Property Damage in the 2nd degree and stealing. These charges are in connection with the burglary at the Shelbina Laundromat which took place about Dec. 28, 2008. Lee was already in custody at the Shelby County Jail in connection with several other area burglaries in Shelbina and in Clarence.

| Shelbina Fire Protection District Battles Grass Fire

The Shelbina Fire Protection District responded to a natural coer fire on Saturday, Jan. 31 at around 1:52 p.m. The call was received by the Shelby County 911. The fire was located at the Greg Buckman farm three miles east of Shelbina on Shelby County Road 464. Upon arrival fire fighters found about a half of an acre burning around the house. The fire was quickly extinguished. The house received damage due to the extreme heat. Fire fighters were on the scene until 2:26 p.m.
